Introduction to the Institute

    Zhuzhou Institute of Technology, originally named Zhuzhou University, was founded in 1978. Located in Zhuzhou, a new industrial city and traffic center in South China, it is the only college concentrated on packaging in our country. It is hence reputed as the cradle of Chinese packaging professionals. Time flies and 23 years have elapsed; it has now become a comprehensive institute with distinguishing packaging feature. Our institute now occupies a total area of 66.3 hectares, a floor space of 217,240 square meters and 50 million yuans' worth of teaching equipments and instruments. At present, the total number of undergraduates has reached over 7,000. There are also nearly 3,000 students taking courses in degree and non-degree programs of adult education. Among its over 400 faculty and staff members, there are 61 full professors, 164 associate professors, 83 doctors, post doctoral researchers and 116 masters. It has also invited more than 30 experts and scholars as visiting or honorary professors. Every year its students are recruited and assigned throughout China. Our institute comprises 12 schools and departments: Art School for Packaging Design, Packaging & Printing School, Zhongshan Packaging College, Mechanical Engineering School and Economics & Management School, Departments of Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Technology, Information and Computational Science, Electrical Engineering, Foreign Languages, Mass Communication and Law,offering 19 specialties among which 7 are "state supervised" and 14 are confirmed to be majors in great demand in China by Hunan Provincial Bureau of Education. Packaging engineering has been constructed as a key specialty on provincial level and a key laboratory--Lab of New Packaging Material & Technology has also been built up there. Several packaging related specialties have taken the lead in our country.
    In addition, our Institute has 11 Research Houses and Centers: such as Centers of Packaging Economics, Printing Techniques, Welding, Automatic Rinse Technology, Statistical Mechanics, Environmental Protection, Packaging Design, Structural Engineering, Packaging Machinery. Since 1997, its teaching staff have published more than 1,230 papers on various journals at home and abroad, and above fifty academic monographs and 28 textbooks. Among which 120 were included in SCI, EI, ISTP indices, and 28 were read out in kinds of international academic conferences. Above 40 national, provincial and ministerial prizes were awarded for their research work.
    With the spirit of Preciseness, Diligence, Unity, and Enterprise the Institute has produced 10,000 qualified graduates in the past twenty years, aiming at cultivating creative, accomplished and social adaptable personnel.
Well constructed and furnished, our Institute is a perfect place for study and research: There is an easy access to its computerized library which has a collection of more than 600,000 volumes. All dorms on campus are connected to the Internet. Its main teaching buildings covers an area of almost 20,000 square meters. Our institute also has long-term connections with above 20 enterprises which offer bases for training students in practical skills.
